Soap opera actress Mary Beth Evans who has been playing the role of Kayla Johnson on the NBC soap opera drama series “Days of Our Lives” since 1986, just signed a contract with the show. The actress is best known for previously starring in television series like “General Hospital”, As The World Turns” and, “Chasing Life” and “The Bay”.
The three actors who got their recurring roles changed to contracts are Judi Evans played who plays Adrienne Kiriakis, Wally Kurth who plays Justin Kiriakis and now Mary Beth Evans who plays Kayla Brady. The change happened after the new writers took over in February 2015. Head writers Gary Tomlin and Christopher Whitesell left the show earlier this year and were replaced by writers Dena Higley and Josh Griffith.
Higley is not new to the Salem world as she worked as a head writer for the show in 2003, and then again from 2008 – 2011. She is an author and speaker besides being a writer.
Griffith has worked for different soap operas in the past like “General Hospital”, “One Life To Live”, “As The World Turns” and “The Young And The Restless”. According to Mr. Higley the new writers material will start airing in late August. He best known for being a soap operas writer and producer.
Mary Beth Evan’s on screen husband Steve and son Joey Johnson will be showing up in Salem soon. Steve will be played by none other than Stephen Nichols, and Joey by newcomer James Lastovic. Stephen has portrayed the role of Steve from 1985-90 and then again from 2006-09, he is set to return later this year in 2015 but only briefly along with Kayla’s on screen brother Bo Brady played by Peter Reckell.
