Soap opera actress Maura West won an Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series Emmy award on Sunday at the 42nd Daytime Emmy awards in Burbank, California for her portrayal of Ava Jerome on “General Hospital”.
The “General Hospital” actress has already won two Emmy awards in the past when she starred on soap opera “As The World Turns”, making this her third award this year. She became very emotional as she went up on stage to accept her award, letting the happy tears run down her cheeks. Shemar Moore was there to hold the actress until she composed herself.
Last month rumors started spreading that the 43 year old actress who currently plays the contract role of Ava Jerome is leaving the show. According to some new reports the actress has no plans of leaving anytime soon and she’s very much staying.
West debuted as Ava Jerome in 2013 in the ABC show. The fans got the wrong idea of her exiting the show when they came across one of her tweets where she “Thanked her GH fans for watching her, playing and hanging out and doing it again someday”.
The Springfield native is no stranger to the soap opera world. She has starred soap operas before like “As The World Turns” for 16 years and “The Young and the Restless” for 1 year. She made her acting debut in 1995 by starring in the soap opera “As The World Turns” that aired for 54 years before going off air in 2010. She then starred in “The Young and the Restless, after that just last year she appeared in a horror movie called ” Come Back to Me” as Eileen. The movie hit the theater in 2014.
The Emmy award winning actress is married to her former “As The World Turns” co star Scott DeFreitas with whom she has 4 children. She was previously married to Jonathan Knight and together they have one child.
