Days of our Lives writers have brought in a new storyline for characters Chase Jennings (Played by Jonathon McClendon) and Ciara Brady (Played by Vivian Jovanni). This time the storyline will involve rape. On yesterday’s episode, Andre DiMera (Played by Thaao Penghlis) had manipulated the son of Aiden Jennings telling him to go after what he wants by being a man and fighting for Hope’s daughter. Chase took his advice and decided to act upon it when he and Ciara arrived at Jennifer Horton’s empty house. Chase expressed his feelings to Ciara, and went in for a kiss, telling her she wants this as much as he wants it to which she responded, but after realizing what was happening, she stopped him, telling him she’s not ready for all this and gets up from the sofa. He didn’t take no for an answer, threw her on the sofa, covered her mouth with his hand and committed a serious crime by raping her.
The last time Days of our Lives writers focused on Rape was when Alan had raped Sami Brady years ago. With the ratings high and rape storyline brought up again, things are surely about to change. When Speaking to Soap Opera Digest: Newcomer Vivian Jovanni talked about the rape scene that aired on February 17, 2016 : “She first learnt about Ciara’s rape after the co-executive producer, Albert and Co-head writer Josh told her about it. Jovanni felt nervous right away but at the same time excited as the storyline was about to get very intense. She was very grateful, because this is the kind of storyline she had always wanted, so she was more than ready to explore it. She chose not to talk to anyone about it, and kept it a secret, only her and her co-star Jonathon McClendon knew about it, because her character was going to be raped by Jonathon’s character Chase.” She continued : “Playing an emotional material like this has really opened her eyes as an actor, because this is something she never expected for the scene to get as real as it did for her, it assisted her grow as an actor which she is really grateful to be given such an opportunity.”
